Those of you who were at DSG know that my family raises Alpacas. why you ask? well, we raise them, breed them, and sell their fiber to make items that we know and love. However, this is not quite as popular with the U.S as it is with Japan and Europe. The U.S. tends to be a little behind the times when it comes to luxury fibers. Alpaca fiber is very soft and can be very expensive. Most high end designers prefer to use Baby alpaca because the first sheering of the baby is the softest. Although this fiber is not quite as well known as some other popular fibers like wool and acrylic, many designers are falling in love with this soft goodness and the trend is catching on!
