Every year our team has a Secret Santa exchange at our holiday party. This year I pulled Amy's name and I knew immediately what I was going to give her . . a handmade snowglobe! I found this craft on
pinterest a few weeks before and thought it was just wonderful! It was fun to make, but the result was even better . . a cheery winter wonderland and a happy Amy!
To make your own, you need the following items:
-1 jar of your choice (smooth-sided is best)
-Plastic or ceramic figurines (metal is prone to rust . . look anywhere from flea markets to railroad hobby shops for things you'd like to put inside your snowglobe)
-Sandpaper
-Clear-drying epoxy (available at craft stores like Michael's)
-Distilled water (available in the water aisle at grocery stores)
-Glycerin (available at drugstores)
-Glitter
-Oil-based enamel paint if you'd like to paint the lid (I used paper and modpodge to create my lid - see the how-to for paper lids here)
Steps:
1.Clean that jar! Wash it well and use Goo-gone to remove any leftover residue from labels.
3. Sand the inside of the lid until it is no longer smooth, so that the figurines will have something to adhere to.
5. Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water, add a pinch of a glitter and a dash of glycerin (glycerin helps the glitter to fall slowly, but adding too much glycerin will cause the glitter to not fall at all, so be careful!).
6. Screw on the lid (tight!), give it a shake and let the magic begin!
4. Use clear-drying epoxy to glue the figurines onto the lid in the positions you want (make sure the jar will still fit into the lid without ruining your composition!) Let it dry.
2. Decorate the lid with paper or paint and let it dry.
